Gregory Shannon Finke

Gregory Shannon Finke, 50, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Greg was born on June 20, 1967 in Lebanon, Indiana.

He was a graduate of Lebanon High School and studied at Indiana State University and Vol State with a strong passion for music. He began his musical career at the early age of six, continuing to hone his skills as a professional drummer. Respected and admired by fellow musicians, Greg was a studio percussionist recording several projects and commercial jingles in the Indianapolis area.

Greg was also a touring musician, most notably as a member of the Jimmy Ryser Band, where he toured across the United States with musical artists including The Moody Blues and REO Speedwagon.

In his downtime, Greg enjoyed being at the lake and engaged in water activities. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering for his favorite teams including the Indianapolis Colts, Purdue Boilermakers, and Chicago Cubs. Most importantly, Greg loved the Lord and leading others toward Christ. His favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 NIV “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Greg is survived by his two sons whom he loved dearly, Trevor Finke, Columbia, SC; Joshua Finke, Myrtle Beach, SC; his loving parents J. and Rosalie Finke, Leesburg, FL; niece Lauryn Finke and great nephew Landon Finke, Woodstock, GA; uncle Mike Hootman (Libby), Brownsburg, IN; and fiancé LaShona Donica, Tavares, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother David Finke and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg.
