George Bishop Shaw

George Bishop Shaw, 82, of Leesburg, FL, died peacefully in his home May 14, 2018 of cancer. In his final hours he was surrounded by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Kay) Shaw and loving daughter, Kelly Shaw.

George and Kay moved from Rochester, NY, to the Plantation at Leesburg in 1998, where George was an avid golfer, pickle ball player and served on the ARC board at the Plantation. He had many friends and will be remembered for his positive attitude, contributions to the Plantation community and commitment to helping others.

A member of the Eagles, he cherished trips to the Caribbean and time with his family and friends. He is a retiree of Rochester Gas & Electric, retiring in 1994 after 35 years. George served in the Army National Guard and is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Shaw family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to their extremely supportive family and friends, as well as Cornerstone Hospice. George appreciated every kind gesture.

George is survived by Kay, of the Plantation at Leesburg, always a source of comfort and love. He leaves behind three children: Kevin (Rebecca) Shaw of Indian Harbour, FL; Karen (Mike) Williams of Mayville, NY; and Kelly Shaw of Newton, MA. George also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Nicole and Heather Shaw; Kevin Johnston; Maegen Lloret; Jaclyn Williams; Knox, Gus and Mac Wallask; as well as two great-grandchildren, Barron Williams and Norah Lloret. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Una Shaw of Rochester, NY.

George was a member of the St. Paul’s Church in Leesburg. A service will be held at Veterans Memorial Park at the Plantation, on May 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. For those wishing to make gifts’ in George’s memory, the family requests donations to Cornerstone Hospice or the Plantation’s Veterans Memorial Park in lieu of flowers.
