Fruitland Park man arrested after smoke spotted coming from wooded area

A Fruitland Park man was arrested Thursday night after smoke was spotted coming from a wooded area.

Sherman Eugene James II, 53, had been told on July 13 to stay off property behind the Fast Stop Superette at 3702 Picciola Road in Leesburg, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Officers were called to the property shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday where multiple people had gathered and were burning garbage about 25 feet behind the business.

James was arrested on a charge of trespassing and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
