Franklin “Del” Goodwin, passed away on August 8, 2018. Del was born on May 11, 1933 to George and Leona Goodwin of Bushnell, Florida. He was 1 of 8 siblings.
He was a retired, 21 year Army veteran, Command Sgt. Major. After Army life, Del returned to Sumter County. He was a contractor and owner of Sumter Sport Shop. He was well known for community involvement and for being an ace fisherman and professional guide with write-ups in many national fishing magazines.
Del was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Louise Goodwin.
He is survived by his wife, Lois M. Goodwin; brothers: Coy and Deonna Goodwin of Lake Panasoffkee; Ernest and Noreene Austin, of AL; children: Dawn Sluss of Bushnell, Dianne Goodwin of Bushnell, Derrel Goodwin of Lake Panasoffkee; step-daughters: Dawn Tucker of Cocoa Beach, Wendy and Chris Darling of Ohio; step-son: Nathan and Jolie Jenkins of AL; grandchildren: Derrel and Holly Cheney, Alexander and Nicole Jacobik, William Jacobik; step-grandson Tyler Tucker and Nick Darling; step-granddaughters: Taylor Jenkins and Fallon Smith; great-grandchildren: Aizen and Tess; great-niece and caregiver, Darlene Stokes; and one of the best companions a man could ask for “Charlie Brown”.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Catfish Johnny’s on Saturday, August 18, 2018 starting at noon. Please bring covered dish, pictures, and stories to tell.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made in the “Honor of C.S.M. Franklin D. Goodwin” to Wounded Warriors Project.
