The driving force behind Villages Honor Flight will be remembered in an upcoming service.
Mark Erdich, who passed away Feb. 12, will be honored during the Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans event set for 10 a.m. March 29 at Veterans Memorial Park in The Villages.
At the close of the ceremony, there will be a dedication of a Memorial Oak Tree planted in Erdich’s honor and the dedication of a memorial plaque at Veterans Memorial Park. Afterward, there will be a gathering at La Hacienda Recreation Center for a celebration of life service and light refreshments. This program is open to all Honor Flight members, past guardians, veterans and anyone who wishes to celebrate Erdich’s life.
Erdich gathered a small group in late 2011 to launch Villages Honor Flight. The first mission took veterans to Washington D.C. on May 26, 2012. Since then more, than 1,000 veterans have been honored.
