The Florida Highway Patrol on Sunday arrested a tow truck driver who has been determined to have been intoxicated in a Jan. 22 crash that killed a one-time Congressional candidate, his wife and son in Marion County.
Travis Lee Johnson, 31, of Ocala, is facing three counts of DUI manslaughter and three counts of vehicular manslaughter.
Johnson had been at the wheel of a Ford F-650 tow truck owned by Cash’s Towing when he drove off the roadway in a southwesterly direction while traveling westbound on State Road 326.
The tow truck struck two mailboxes before colliding head-on with a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by a 61-year-old man, William H. McCullough of Deleon Springs. He died as a result of the collision. Also killed were two passengers in his vehicle, 56-year-old Renee McCullough and 31-year-old Ryan McCullough, both of Deleon Springs.
William McCullough had sought a seat in the District 6 U.S. House of Representatives in 2016. He won the Democratic party, but lost to incumbent Ron DeSantis.
Johnson had been seriously injured and transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
