Fairway Christian Church lends support to Silver Trefoil’s pajama drive

This year’s Girl Scout Alumnae Silver Trefoil Pajama and Book Drive is off to a great start in The Villages.

This year’s goal is 6,000 pairs of pajamas for area homeless children.

Members of Fairway Christian Church made a big dent in that number when they showed up at Colony Cottage Recreation Center and deposited 30 pairs of pajamas, six tops, five bottoms, seven packages of socks, and nine packages of underwear in the big red collection box.

Thus far, 250 pajamas and 327 books have been gathered from collection boxes at all Villages recreation centers.

The service project began in 2009 with the group, under the direction of Villager Mikki Blumberg, gathering 100 pair of PJs and distributing them to area homeless children.

The Silver Trefoils partner with the United Way to distribute the pajamas and books just before the Christmas holiday.
Over the past years the Silver Trefoils have asked the help of Villagers to promote the drive and donate to help these children. Last year’s drive gathered 3,900 pair of pajamas, 5,500 books totaling a value of $59,000.

For information, visit any Villages recreation center and look for the large decorative collection box.
