The ads would have you believe there is a connection between the 1975 movie “Going in Style” and the current “Just Getting Started.” The only similarity is that Morgan Freeman appears in both. In 1975 he was a partner in a prankish bank robbery. In the current flick, he is in the Witness Protection Program. FBI agent Tommy Lee Jones thinks the Mafia has blown his cover and tries to protect him.
Freeman is a giant of an actor. In this movie using a faux ID, he parleys his social skills into running a popular vacation spot in Palm Springs, California where sex and alcohol are rampant. All the shots are on location and feature the resident coyote in one clip. But Freeman alone cannot prevent this movie from becoming reminiscent of a Marx Brothers circus.
Tommy Lee Jones is not funny and carries too much baggage (“The Fugitive.”) Jane Seymour and Johnny Mathis take on pathetic cameo roles.
While your 90 minutes in a darkened theatre may not be totally wasted, I just “cannot get started” on “Just Getting Started” which is currently playing at the Rialto and Barnstorm Theaters in The Villages.
Don’t get me started on ‘Just Getting Started’
