Dog-friendly dining is a done deal for Square 1 Burgers & Bar at Pinellas Plaza in The Villages.

The restaurant successfully persuaded Wildwood City Commissioners to adopt an ordinance that would permit dogs to dine alongside their owners in the outdoor patio area of the restaurant.

Square 1 CEO Joanie Corneil was present at Monday evening’s Wildwood meeting in which the ordinance was approved.

“It’s good to see this done,” she said.

Square 1 will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

This is the chain’s seventh location. The first Square 1 was launched in 2008 in Tampa.

Another Square 1 is planned for Gainesville.

Corneil said dog-friendly dining is offered at all other Square 1 locations.

“People love it,” she said.
