Disaster at the end of closing

To the Editor:

I had a good closing experience except for the end. I was given a small envelope with my postal keys. I looked at the envelope and realized the address was not mine. I pointed this out to the agent and she seemed mystified. She went to her supervisor and the supervisor came in to see me and said my keys had been given to a lady in the morning who closed and I had her keys. She said that she called the lady and she would bring in my keys.
So, this certainly upset me and it is hard to believe it happened. I then asked about my home keys and wanted to know it they were correct and would work. I was told that they absolutely would work.  I also asked the supervisor and she assured me the keys would work.
I could not wait for the postal keys as I needed to leave as the moving company would arrive.  I got to my home and tried the door key. IT DID NOT WORK!!  I tried all 3 keys and NONE worked.  I tried everything to get them to work with no success. I was FRANTIC as the truck would arrive shortly.
I called the closing office and spoke to my agent. I was very angry on the phone explaining that first I was given the wrong postal keys and then assured my house keys would work.  I demanded something be done immediately as I had the truck arriving. I waited and a builder did come and tried the keys without success. He had to rekey both locks as well as the garage door lock.
I cannot understand how things so important can go so wrong at the end.  Why weren’t the keys checked and used on the door to make sure they worked? My neighbor received a metal device at his closing that is used to reset/change the locks for keys. Why wasn’t I given one?  If I had it, perhaps I could have used it to open the door.
You really need to review the key issue and make changes that will solve this problem in the future.
Also, two days later I had to go to the rec. center to get my postal keys. You would think after all the aggravation, someone could have brought them to my home.
I had a good experience up to the end and then disaster. Senior citizens have enough stress with selling their home, buying a new one, moving etc. without adding more by putting them through an experience like I had.
Follow up:  No response from the Closing Department. I sent this to them over two weeks ago. So much for help and support. My next letter will be about plumbing issues I encountered in my new home. You will not believe what they found in my plumbing!
