Deputy finds Del Webb Spruce Creek home ransacked after neighbor calls for help

A Del Webb Spruce Creek woman called Marion County deputies for help Monday after she noticed something wasn’t quite right with her neighbor’s house.

The woman, who lives in the 12800 block of SE 97th Terrace Road, said she was concerned because while doing yard work when she noticed that her neighbor’s back screen door was damaged.

A short time later, a deputy spoke with the woman’s neighbor by telephone and was told the house should be locked up. But when the deputy went to investigate, he noticed that a screen door had been cut and a second screen door had been partially removed from its track.

After the deputy entered the home through a sliding glass door and saw that the house had been “ransacked,” he called the owner again and was told there wasn’t anything of value in the residence, a sheriff’s office report states. But after conducting an inventory of the home’s items while on the phone with the owner, it was determined that a $220 bicycle was taken from the garage.

Before leaving the house, the deputy advised the homeowner to report any other items he discovers missing after he returns to his home.
