Del Webb Spruce Creek man arrested on DUI charge in The Villages

Scott Charles Heim

A Del Webb Spruce Creek man was arrested on a drunk driving charge Friday night in The Villages.

Scott Charles Heim, 53, had been driving shortly before midnight on County Road 466 at Oak Hammock Path when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed that Heim’s vehicle was traveling 29 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, according to an arrest report. Heim repeatedly hit the brake pedal and crossed the white painted line two times. The deputy pulled Heim’s vehicle over in the parking lot of Taco Bell at Southern Trace Plaza.

The deputy asked Heim where he was coming from and Heim replied, “Work, well not work, but a function.”

The deputy asked Heim if he had been drinking.

“I’ve had a few after work, I’ve been depressed,” Heim said.

He failed field sobriety exercises and would not consent to a breath test.

A check revealed Heim had two previous DUI convictions in Pennsylvania. One in 1992 and the other in 2006.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $5,000 bond.
