The home of a deceased Villager is in foreclosure and becoming an eyesore for neighbors in the Village of Belvedere.
The home at 802 Blake Lane was the subject of a public hearing Friday morning before the Community Development District 5 Board of Supervisors.
The homeowner, Ronald Chuba, was 78 when he “died peacefully at his home” on Sept. 1, 2017, according to his obituary.
A complaint about overgrown grass and weeds was received June 13 by Community Standards.
The Connecticut native’s wife had preceded him in death and his daughter has been designated as Chuba’s personal representative. Community Standards has left messages with her, but she has not responded.
The utilities have been turned off and the property is in foreclosure with CIT Bank.
The property was maintained by the District on July 30 at a cost of $100.
CDD 5 Supervisor Gary Kadow said abandoned homes are “the No. 1 thing that we supervisors hear about.”
And he has been sharing in the pain.
“I have two on my street that have been abandoned,” Kadow said.
In the case of the Chuba property, the board found that it is not in compliance and agreed to fine the “owner.” A $250 fine will be levied each time the District has to maintain the property.
