Dead man’s home in Village of Del Mar has utilities turned off, grass overgrown

A dead man’s home in the Village of Del Mar was the subject of a public hearing Wednesday before the Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors.

The home at 1225 Maria Court was owned by Thomas Czerwinski, who died at age 65 on Jan. 30 of this year.

A complaint was received Aug. 27 about overgrown grass and weeds and that complaint was verified the following day by Community Standards. It was also determined the utilities have been shut off.

Czerwinski’s emergency contacts had been disconnected, but on the eve of Wednesday’s public hearing, Czerwinski’s son emerged and said his father’s estate was in probate. The son, who lives in Riverview, reportedly recently had a yard sale at his father’s house.

He told Community Standards he has arranged for the property to be maintained every 10 days.

The son has been given three days to bring the property into compliance. If not, a series of fines will be imposed.
