A daughter was arrested after attacking her Villager parents who dared to broach the topic of her moving out of their home.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to a home on Cloverwood Terrace in the Village of Calumet Grove where 38-year-old Michelle Labarbera was being held on the floor in a leg scissors by her 78-year-old father. He also held both of her wrists.
Labarbera’s 76-year-old mother had attempted to raise the subject of Labarbera moving out of their Villages home, according to an arrest report.
Labarbera responded by knocking her mother to the floor. When her father stepped in, Labarbera kicked him in the groin. He restrained her until deputies arrived on the scene.
Labarbera told deputies she had consumed five to six beers and claimed her physician has prescribed beer-drinking as a replacement for opioids. She also said she has a Medical Marijuana card. She claimed she has a “rare disease.” The report noted that she was wearing a neck brace and a back brace. Labarbera also accused her parents of starving her.
The parents said Labarbera has been diagnosed with a schizophrenia, but does not take medication.
Labarbera was arrested on two counts of battery on a person over the age of 65.
She was booked at the Marion County Jail where she was initially held without bond.
