A landscaping company was digging up trees and heavy equipment operators were moving dirt Friday south of County Road 466A in anticipation of the extension of Pinellas Place.

The trees were removed from behind the Sarasota Practice Facility and Villages Public Safety Station 44. Meanwhile, heavy equipment operators are clearing the path for the Pinellas Place extension which will serve as a major artery connecting the Village of Fruitland Park to the rest of The Villages.

On Thursday night, Fruitland Park Commissioners unanimously approved the formation of Community Development District 11.

The CDD serves as a funding mechanism so that infrastructure for the planned 2,000 homes of the Villages of Fruitland Park can be put into place.

Trees were uprooted Friday behind the Sarasota Practice Facility.
