Convicted sex offender updates registration in villa in Village of St. James

Richard Dennis Shumaker

A convicted sex offender earlier this month updated his motor vehicle registration with the address of a villa in the Village of St. James.

Richard Dennis Shumaker, 58, on July 3 registered his tan Mazda utility vehicle at 2035 Peaceful Place in the Fairhope Villas, according to information from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Shumaker had been convicted in 2005 on a charge of lewd or lascivious exhibition by an adult in Marion County. He was originally arrested in 2002. He was placed on five years probation and ordered to complete sex offender counseling.

Shumaker was charged in 2006 with violating his probation and sentenced to jail time. His lawyer took the case to an appeals court, which dismissed it.

The villa in which Shumaker is residing is owned by a couple who lives in Conroe, Texas and the tax bill is sent there each year.
