Convicted felon arrested with gun, meth after found sleeping in car

A convicted felon was arrested with a gun and methamphetamine after he was found sleeping in a car in Wildwood.

Thomas Paul Perugini Jr., 32, of Belleview, was found at 8:48 a.m. Sunday in a blue Nissan Titan in the middle of NW 92nd Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Perugini said he was in his vehicle playing scratch off tickets and fell asleep doing so, the report said.

A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on Perugini’s vehicle.

He was found to be in possession of a .38 Special Derringer handgun. Ammunition, a digital scale and methamphetamine were discovered in his vehicle.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $13,000.
