Community Improvement Council to offer safety flashers at Lake Sumter Landing

The Community Improvement Council will have their safety flashers available from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lake Sumter Landing.

The safety flashers make people who are walking in the dark, and their dogs, visible to cars and golf carts. The flashers can be worn by people and also clipped to a dog’s collar or harness.

The CIC asks for a $5 donation for each flasher. Part of that money is used for the purchase of another flasher and lanyard, and the balance is put in a fund for other projects to improve the lifestyle of Villages residents. Currently, the CIC is putting a wheelchair in the recreation centers. They have put one in each regional recreation center and several Village recreation centers. They have also donated a wheelchair for each town square. Several other projects are under discussion at this time.

The Community Improvement Council has been in existence for more than 30 years. There is a supply of suggestion forms at each postal station, and a box in which to deposit a completed form. Those boxes are checked weekly, and all suggestion forms are followed up with the resident who turned it in, and with the appropriate department.
