Effie Phelps of the Village of Hemingway was among the bargain hunters Saturday at Coldwater Creek in Lake Sumter Landing.

Coldwater Creek filed for bankruptcy on April 11.

The company has announced plans to close its roughly 330 stores.

Coldwater Creek was founded in Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1984. The company reached its revenue peak of $1.1 billion in 2006, but a heavy debt load weighed on the women’s clothing retailer for years as it struggled to survive the economic slowdown.

The Lake Sumter Landing store has always been popular. Items at the store have been marked down in an attempt to clear our inventory.

“I hate to see it go away,” Phelps said. “I always bought my daughter’s presents there.”

In addition to its stores across the country, Coldwater Creek sold women’s fashions online and through its catalog.
