Clermont Police Chief Charles Broadway has entered the race for Lake County sheriff.
He will be running to succeed Sheriff Gary Borders, who surprised many when he announced last month he would not be running for another term.
Broadway was elevated from the rank of captain to become chief of police in Clermont in 2012. He became chief in Clermont following a turbulent time within the department and he has worked hard since then to restore the public’s trust in the department.
Broadway is running without party affiliation in the sheriff’s race.
Three candidates are running as Republicans. They are Peyton Grinnell of Lady Lake, Andres Obregon Jr. of Lady Lake and Daniel Lee Sells of Minneola.
