Four women friends find common ground in reading a specific book, then discussing its content. Things take an unexpected turn when they select “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the treatise on modern day sexuality. It gives them pause to consider how their current relationships have fizzled.
The boost for this lighthearted comedy is the cast. Candice Bergen (Sharon) has the lead role and you are pulling for her all the way in her hunt for companionship. Close behind is Vivian (Jane Fonda), Diane (Diane Keaton) and Carol (Mary Steenburgen). All their different stories are woven together. The men take a back seat and their butts are the butts of most of the jokes. The exception is Mitchell (Andy Garcia), the erotic raconteur. Unfortunately his cosmopolitan aura is too-good-to-be-true.
Shame on Fonda for patting her flat belly in an unabashed promo for her exercise franchise.
The script is good and an all-star cast is a combination you do not want to miss. This is a Must-See movie and gets an A Grade from me. It is currently showing at the Old Mill Playhouse at Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages and patrons are queuing up well before show time to get the best seats. Claim your seat first, then get your popcorn.
