Charles “Chuck” Chartier, of The Villages, FL, died peacefully at home on April 9, 2018.
He was born August 25, 1927 in Chicopee Mass. to Josephine (Desmaris) and Leo Chartier.
He graduated from Holyoke High School, where he played varsity football and bowling, and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Charles attended American International College and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Chi Fraternity. He practiced Chiropractic Care for 40 years in Pittsfield, Mass. where he was instrumental, while working with the governor of Massachusetts, in getting Chiropractic Care legalized in the state. He received an award as a Chiropractic pioneer by the National Chiropractic Society. Charles was a member and president of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society and was also a member of their speaker’s guild. Charles was president of his Dale Carnegie Course, as well as a panel member of the University of Massachusetts.
His passion was golf and was a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club for over 60 years where he served as president for two years and on the board of directors for over 20 years. Charles was voted Man of the Year by the Businessman’s League of the Berkshire Hills Country Club in 1975. He enjoyed getting his three hole-in-ones there.
He and his wife moved to The Villages in 1991 so that he could enjoy playing golf throughout his retirement years.
In addition to golf, he enjoyed going to OTB to bet on the horses and dogs. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf courses in many of the countries he traveled to. He enjoyed visiting golf’s first-first hole at St. Andrew’s Golf Course in Scotland. Most of all, Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly A. Chartier, his daughters Pam (Tom) Szpila, Debbie (Jerry Durham) Cochran and Aimee (Rick) Gregory. Survivors also include his grandchildren Tammy, Kellie, Shaun, Christopher, Jessica, Heather, Brian, Tyler, Evan, and Aaron, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Leo Chartier, who died in the Invasion of Normandy, his son Steven Chartier and his granddaughter Samantha Gregory.
In lieu of flowers, it was his wish that donations be made in his memory to the Palmer College of Chiropractic, 1000 Brady Street, Davenport, IA 52803.
