First round action in the Central Florida League’s Joel Beason Memorial Tournament saw IHOP defeat Fross & Fross in a tight defensive game 7-2.
IHOP got two hits apiece from Manny Sanchez, Don Brozick, Rick Fredieu, John Leone, and sub, Jim Morton. IHOP pitcher, Carlos Lopez, gave up only seven hits. Fross scored its two runs in the second inning as Cal Driskill and John Reedy each singled and scored on a rare infield miscue on John Wyks’ hit and on a single by Wayne Grunewald. IHOP got great defensive plays from Rick Duemler, Don Brozick, Jim Morton as the team turned two double plays.
Synergy Wealth won the other opening round game with an 11-7 win over Team Koller.
Synergy got three hits including a home run from sub, Charlie Clare. Adding two hits were: Ed Haith, Gary DePalma, Ron Young, and sub, Howard . Young stroked a two run homer in the second. Team Koller had three hits by Rocky Spottswood and a pair each by Bob Holbert, Bill Sass, Bob Buchanan, Jim Joseph, and Tom Aldridge. The difference in the game was the Synergy Wealth defense was able to get the third out as Koller stranded runners in three innings.
Next week’s games will see Synergy Wealth take on Gators Brownwood and IHOP take on Palm Ridge Dental. The winners will play the championship game.
