Central Florida League Fall 2017 Joel Beason Memorial Tournament

The Central Florida League’s Fall season came to an end this week with the conclusion of the Joel Beason Memorial Tournament. Following last week’s play in and first round action the semi-final games were played at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Softball’s R Game took on league champs, Palm Ridge Dental and came up short losing 14-12.

Palm Ridge had four hits each by Gary Nicolay and Joe Mayer. Ed Haith chipped in three hits including a triple and a solo homer in the first inning. Pitcher, Gary Luck helped out with three hits of his own. Softball’s R Game got three hits from Jim Stencil, Scott Marshall, and Mike Bernbach.

The other semi-final saw FBC Mortgage defeat league runner up Paul Davis Restorations 14-6.

Marty Berger led FBC with four hits, while Tim Wilcox and Howard Charney added thee each. Charney had a two run homer in the seventh inning as part of FBC’s six run inning to put the game out of reach. Paul Davis had three hits from Mike Jeffries, while: Jim Wiegand, Chick Cicatelli, Bob Buchanan, and Jim Moyer had a pair of hits apiece.

The final game saw FBC Mortgage continue its hot hitting as they defeated Palm Ridge Dental 17-5.

FBC got three hits from: John Hoover, Ed Joseph, Howard Charney, Tim Wilcox, Peter Daub, and Phil Palma. Gary DePalma, Rocky Spottswood, and sub, Charlie Clare all had a pair of hits. Palm Ridge Dental got three hits from Ed Haith and Gary Luck. Don Winstead, John VanArnhem, and Ed DeMaio each stroked two hits in the loss.

The Central Florida League will return to softball action in January, 2018.
