Community Development District 8 supervisors on Friday decided not to revisit the topic of anonymous complaints, despite receiving a petition from residents asking them to do so.
Supervisor Duane Johnson said he and his fellow supervisors had received copies of a petition signed by 33 residents.
“We need to have this discussion once and for all,” Johnson said.
He went on record saying that he would like to see the topic added to the board’s February agenda.
However, he did not receive the support of his fellow board members.
“It has been discussed in the past. I thought it had been put to bed,” said CDD 8 Chairman Phil Walker.
Supervisor Sal Torname said 80 to 90 percent of complaints received by Community Standards are anonymous.
“That tells you what we’d have if it wasn’t anonymous,” he said.
Supervisor Larry McMurry said anonymity isn’t the issue.
“If everybody was in compliance, we wouldn’t have a problem,” he said.
The petition that was received asked supervisors to change the policy requiring those submitting complaints about suspected deed violations to submit their name and address.
