CDD 8 supervisors offer overview of district’s workings to residents

Community Development District 8 supervisors hosted a well-attended town hall meeting Thursday evening at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

CDD 8 Chairman Sal Torname provided an overview of the District:

District 8 was established on Sept. 28, 2004.

There are 1,098 acres in CDD 8. Here is  a breakdown of the home types in the district:

• 2,958 Standard Home Sites
• 2,004 Villa Home Sites
• 231 Premier Home Sites
• 5,193 Total Home Sites

The Villages that make up CDD 8 are:

Pennecamp

Buttonwood

St. James

St. Charles

Tamarind Grove

Creekside Landing

Village of Bridgeport at Creekside Landing

Supervisor Joe Elliott presented an overview of the district’s finances including the five-year capital improvement plan.

He added that the district has more than $3.7 million  in working capital reserve funds.

“We are in super financial shape,” Elliott said, thanking district staff for their dedication to the budgeting and planning process.

“We are committed to fiscal responsibility for the residents of the district,” Elliott said, noting that the supervisors look at the financial status each month.

Supervisor Dennis Hayes provided information about CDD 8’s relationship to the Project Wide Advisory Committee which bands together CDDs south of County Road 466 on major projects and maintenance.

PWAC’s annual budget is $8.9 million with CDD 8 contributing $1.3 million in funding.

He noted that the removal of trees at the Lake Miona shoreline, which falls in CDD 5, will be paid for by Project Wide.

In 2013 there were more than 600 applications for modifications to homes. Those applications are reviewed by the Architectural Review Committee. Phil Walker represents CDD 8 on the ARC. He was at the meeting to offer an overview of the process.

Supervisor Ray Banks closed the program by inviting residents to attend CDD meetings or to attend CDD orientation and Resident Academy.

CDD 8 meets at 2 p.m. the third Friday of each month at Lake Miona Recreation Center.
