CDD 7 residents win in effort to have troublesome trees removed

The Community Development District 7 board has agreed to spend up to $10,000 to remove and replace some troublesome trees.

Residents appeared before supervisors Friday morning to complain about some Drake Elm trees that have been dropping seedlings into residents’ yards and roots that are threatening a wall.

The residents, who live along Bonita Boulevard in CDD 7, cited a recent case of a resident of CDD 6 who successfully lobbied for tree removal earlier this year near the same location. (You can read about that case here http://villages-news.com/villager-prevails-in-two-year-battle-to-have-trees-removed/)

CDD 7 supervisors said they wanted to take action and get ahead of the problem.

“I would want to spend the money now rather than more later,” said CDD 7 Chairman Ron McMahon.

The troublesome Drake Elms will be replaced with Winged Elm trees.
