Card-access gate to go up at ‘Wall’ site

A card-access gate will be going up at the site of the “Berlin Wall” drama from earlier this summer.

The gate should be going up within the next month, following action this afternoon at a meeting of the Village Center Community Development District.

The item did not appear in advance on the VCCDD’s agenda, but was a last-minute add-on item.

The gate off Paradise Drive on the Historic Side of The Villages will be accompanied by a camera, District Manager Janet Tutt said.

Paul and Winnie Howe of the Village of Country Club Hills were up in Vermont for the summer when the wall went up in the wee hours of Aug. 10. The wall was taken down by a crane on Aug. 16.

“We missed all of that,” said Winnie Howe. “It’s a shame. What are the people from Stonecrest who want to come here and spend their money going to do?”
