A car that was being pursued by law enforcement crashed into a wall at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the new Villages of Fruitland Park along County Road 466A.
The driver of the car, being chased by the Fruitland Park Police Department, lost control of the vehicle, traveled across the new yet-to-be-opened lanes of CR466A and crashed into the wall.
Soon after the crash, one person from that vehicle was transported by ambulance from the scene of the accident. Another person and a small child initially were being evaluated inside an ambulance by personnel from Lake EMS. A third ambulance arrived and the second person and the child were transported from the scene.
The accident occurred about one-quarter of a mile east of Micro Racetrack Road. When the car left the roadway, it took out landscaping and a palm tree before hitting the wall.
Multiple agencies responded to the accident including Fruitland Park police, Fruitland Park Fire Rescue, The Villages Public Safety Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Villages Community Watch.
A second vehicle, a pickup truck, said to be involved in the accident sustained minor damage.
That particular section of County Road 466A is due to begin opening up to traffic on Monday.
