The Cabaret, an annual showcase of accomplished talented Villagers, will celebrate their twelfth year of performances with two shows on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Savannah Center.
“This really is one of the premier shows featuring Villagers,” said Ray Leggiero, the Cabaret producer. “There is something for everyone. Most of the performers are or have been professionals in their field.”
The field for this variety show is a wide one. Musical performers cover pop, Broadway, opera and jazz.
“She is our own Ella Fitzgerald,” said Leggiero of jazz singer Janice Swartz. Opera performer Larry Rivellese is an audience favorite who gained national attention when he appeared on Steve Harvey’s show “Forever Young.”
For comedy there are two professional comedians. Frank Pisani, from the Chicago area, is new to the cast this year. A professional comedian until retirement, he is also known for his impressions. Familiar to some in the audience will be Joe Beddia performing as George Carlin.
For something a little different the show includes harmonica virtuoso Phil Caltabellota, “It sounds like a symphony orchestra all coming from one harmonica,” said Leggiero, and Bongo player Mike Petix. “He’s one of the best in the country,” said Leggerio.
Proceeds from the show are donated to The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation. Over the past 11 years, the Cabaret has donated over $100,000 to TVRH Auxiliary Foundation.
“The performers donate all their time and it is something really special each year,” said Leggiero.
He also mentioned what a great way for those new to the Villages to get a taste of all the talented people that live in this community.
There are two shows: 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. There is limited cabaret seating available and seating in the upper level. Tickets for the cabaret seats are $28 and upper-level seating is $19. You can purchase tickets at the Villages Box Office or on-line at www.thevillagesentertainment.com.
