Brothers at center of investigation into double shooting in Summerfield

One man is in custody and his younger brother is still on the loose and wanted in connection with a double shooting in Summerfield this past Tuesday night.

Derrick Devon Brown, 34, was arrested Wednesday by Marion County sheriff’s detectives and charged with two counts of attempted felony murder and one count of attempted robbery with a firearm, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states. He was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $175,000 bond.

Brown’s arrest stems from shootings Tuesday night at a home located at 9425 SE 145th Place in Summerfield. When deputies arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, where one remains in critical condition. The other man has been released from the hospital.

The suspects also attempted to rob the victims after shooting them, the report says.

Detectives are still looking for Brandon Lee Brown 32, in connection with the shootings and attempted robbery. They are warning the public that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Derrick Brown is no stranger to the Marion County Jail, having been arrested for various offenses seven times in the past 18 years. Marion County Court records shows that he’s been found guilty of many charges, including home invasion robbery while armed, driving while license suspended or revoked, possession of cocaine, sale of cocaine, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, not wearing a seat belt as a passenger in a vehicle and smoking tobacco on or near school property.

Brandon Brown has been arrested nine times by Marion County deputies dating back to March 2005. He has been found guilty in Marion County courtrooms of driving with a license suspended or revoked, resisting or obstructing an officer without violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, sale of cocaine, not wearing a seat belt as a passenger in a vehicle, battery, speeding, fleeing or attempting to allude a police officer using lights and siren, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, no valid driver’s license and possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams.
