Black lab mix euthanized after killing 11-pound terrier in Water Oak

A black lab mix was euthanized after killing an 11-pound terrier in Water Oak.

The 12-year-old black lab mix named Sasha was euthanized on March 9 at Lady Lake Animal Clinic after attacking the smaller dog, named Finnegan.

A woman took Sasha and a second dog out for a walk at about 4:30 p.m. March 8 on Palm Drive. Both dogs broke free and she fell to the ground, shattering her shoulder, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She lost control of the dogs’ leashes.

Sasha picked up Finnegan in her mouth and began shaking him. Finnegan’s owner had to kick Sasha “multiple times” to get her to release the smaller dog. The woman’s second dog did not participate in the attack.

Finnegan was taken to Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital and was “in shock.”  He suffered “a large abdomen wall hernia that would need to be repaired by the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in Gainesville.” Finnegan’s owners elected to have him euthanized. The bill at Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital was $415.10.

Sasha’s owner was contacted by Lady Lake Animal Control. She provided proof that Sasha was euthanized and indicated she had mailed a check to Finnegan’s owners to cover their veterinary bill. She was cited for violating town ordinances against damaging or destroying property or animals and at-large animals.

A dog was euthanized last month after attacking another dog in The Villages.
