Barbara Ilene Fowler

Barbara Ilene Fowler passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 in Lady Lake, FL. Born and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan, Barbara’s parents were Noel V. Swindler Sr. and Beulah Gertrude Swindler.

Barbara married Elbert R. Fowler of Detroit, Michigan in 1949 and they shared their lives together for almost 56 years. She attended Central Michigan University at Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and then transferred to the University of Michigan her final year. Barbara also took classes at the University of Mexico in 1965 to finish her Masters degree in Spanish.

Barbara taught Latin and Spanish at Walled Lake High School and, later on, Spanish at Franklin and Bentley High Schools in Livonia, Michigan. She later worked for the Huron Valley School System as a secretary and substitute teacher.

Along with her husband, parents and son Howard, she took up residence in the Lady Lake area in 1978. Barbara was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a vigilant caretaker of her elderly parents. Barbara enjoyed teaching, playing the piano when younger, and sewing dresses and quilts with her mother. She loved watching Nelson Eddy – Jeanette MacDonald films and looked forward to viewing Lawrence Welk TV programs.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark E. (Lillian) of White Lake, MI and Howard N. Fowler of Lady Lake. She also leaves behind a grandson, Matthew D. Fowler. She was predeceased by her loving husband Elbert, her grandson Mark J. Fowler and her two brothers Noel V. Swindler Jr. and William Swindler.

Barbara Fowler now rests from her earthly sojourn and awaits that great awakening call of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to a glorious resurrection and life eternal. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!

A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 2 p.m. at the Beyers Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.
