Bandits make off with multiple shop tools from shed at Lake Weir school

Thieves broke into a shed at Lake Weir Middle School and stole multiple items used in shop classes.

The shop teacher at the school, located at 10220 SE Sunset Harbor Rd., alerted the school resource officer Monday morning and said the exterior shed was broken into sometime between June 23 and Aug. 6 at 8:45 a.m. The Marion County sheriff’s deputy didn’t see any forced entry on a fence surrounding the building but did notice damage to a door leading to the area where the items were stolen from, a report notes.

The shop teacher said the items taken were valued at about $350. He said they included a palm router, two belt sanders, two palm sanders, a router bit set and a brad nailer. In addition, the teacher reported four personal items valued at $275 missing. Those included two adult-size bicycles, a lawnmower and a roller tool case.
