Assault weapon, numerous rounds of ammunition discovered in suspicious incident in Lady Lake

An AR-15 assault weapon and numerous rounds of ammunition were discovered in a van involved in a suspicious incident in Lady Lake.

Lady Lake police were alerted at 3:39 p.m. Thursday when the van, with four individuals and a female toddler inside, was spotted in the parking lot of the Dollar General store on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake. Someone reported that they believed the men intended to rob the Dollar General store.

A search of the van turned up the assault rifle and the large stash of ammunition.

Law enforcement were at the Dollar General on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake.

Two men were arrested on charges of reckless display of a firearm and possession of narcotics. They are being booked at the Lake County Jail.

The driver of the van fled with the female toddler. He was apprehended, but was not arrested.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies assisted in the incident.
