Arrest report details Thanksgiving Day crash in which retired kindergarten teacher arrested

Connie Davis

An arrest report is offering details about a Thanksgiving Day crash in which a retired kindergarten teacher was arrested.

Connie Davis, 72, of Water Oak, admitted to drinking “some chardonnay” prior to the accident which occurred at about 3 p.m. Thanksgiving Day on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near the entrance to Water Oak, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Davis’ light blue Buick “was emitting a large cloud of smoke from the wheels” before it struck a black SUV and then a second vehicle.

An unidentified man riding as a passenger in Davis’ vehicle told police she had been driving “like a maniac.” Davis and the man were not injured.

Davis’ vehicle was missing a front tire and had been driven on the rim, leaving a scrape mark on the roadway.

“The scrape mark went south on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 as far as I could observe,” the arresting officer wrote in the report.

The officer informed Davis that the front tire was missing.

“Really? Where is it?” she asked.

Davis admitted she had consumed “some chardonnay” and was leaning on her car for support.

She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .136 and .126 blood alcohol content. She was booked at the Lake County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.

Last month, an attorney for Davis persuaded a judge to allow Davis to enter into a pre-trial intervention program following her Sept. 13 arrest after an altercation with a younger live-in man friend at her home at 911 Trevino Drive. Davis had been arrested on a charge of battery.

The pretrial intervention contract, which identifies Davis as a retired kindergarten teacher, requires Davis to complete a “Women’s Empowerment Program,” have no violent contact with the man involved in the altercation, and pay $100 for the cost of prosecution. It also requires her “to refrain from violation of any law.” That deal, which could have resulted in the dismissal of the battery charge, now appears to be in jeopardy.
