The ALDI grocery store on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake will shut down April 30 for four weeks of remodeling.
During the four-week shutdown, employees from the Lady Lake store will work toward opening the new ALDI store under construction at Trailwinds Village on County Road 466A in Wildwood. That store is scheduled to open in May.
Founded by the Albrecht family, the first ALDI store opened in 1961 in Germany. Headquartered in Batavia, Ill., ALDI now has more than 1,600 stores across 35 states, employs over 25,000 people and has been steadily growing since opening its first U.S. store in Iowa in 1976.
Over the past decade, ALDI nearly doubled in size and by 2018, ALDI will bring its total number of U.S. stores to nearly 2,000.
Publix remains under construction at Spanish Plaines
The Publix grocery store remains under construction at 1566 Bella Cruz Drive in the Spanish Plaines Plaza.
The store was demolished last year.
It previously was an Albertsons supermarket, but was purchased by Publix nearly 10 years ago.
The closure of the Publix at Spanish Plaines has steered many shoppers to the Publix at La Plaza Grande which has been noticeably busier for the past several months.
