To the Editor:
For four decades, Bernie Sanders has been a consistent progressive in his beliefs, in his political life, and in his appearances on the trail. That’s commendable, even presidential. Every story written about Sanders’ support for more and bigger social programs, higher taxes on the rich, fewer wars, more environmental regulation, health care, and education, reads the same. His consistency must be admired.
Clinton is a moderate who calls herself a progressive, to avoid being labeled a liberal. She does not know what she is going to support, at least not until she’s seen the morning polls. She has been for and against an oil pipeline, a trade agreement, attacks on other nations and big contributions from Wall Street. Her slogan would best read: “Hillary believes what you believe . . today.” Clinton’s Democratic Party is afraid of Sanders. He will fight for all the stuff progressive voters have wanted since the 1960s, and expose that Clinton, thanks to her “pragmatism,” won’t.
