A 37-year-old Oxford woman has been jailed without bond following a traffic stop at 9:48 a.m. Sunday at the Murphy Express gas station on County Road 466.

Melissa Bean was a passenger in a Chevy SUV when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed the driver and passenger were not wearing seatbelts. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and in making contact with the driver and passenger, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana. The deputy issued Bean and the driver of the vehicle written warnings for not wearing seatbelts. The deputy then obtained permission to search Bean’s purse. In a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, a marijuana cigarette was discovered. The deputy then discovered that Bean had been placed on probation July 1, 2014 in Marion County on a charge of driving while license suspended.

She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where she was being held without bond.
