About 2,500 Red Sox fans swarmed Brownwood Paddock Square Sunday afternoon to get a look at the trio of World Series trophies won by the Boston Red Sox over the past decade.
Jack and Sandra O’Brien of the Village of Polo Ridge were thrilled to be able to take their out-of-town friends, Dave and Allison Fogel, to Brownwood to see the World Series trophies.
“We had day of golf at Arnie Palmer and here we are now,” Sandra O’Brien said. “I am not sure there is anything we can do for an encore.”
The Fogels were visiting from York Beach, Maine.
Shelby Eldridge was at work at the Barnstorm Theater when she saw the commotion at Paddock Square. When she learned what was going on, she immediately called her parents in Leesburg.
Tim and Wendy Eldridge hustled over to The Villages.
Father and daughter, both in their Red Sox gear, were able to score a photo with the World Series trophies.
Red Sox Nation in The Villages is the largest Red Sox fan club in the country, said Red Sox Nation President Art Plant.
Charles Steinberg, vice president and senior advisor to the president of the Red Sox, spoke to the crowd. Also appearing was former Red Sox catcher Marc Sullivan.
