Two Summerfield residents were identified Saturday as among the latest Floridians to test positive for the Coronavirus.
They were identified as a 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old man, both of whom had no recent travel history but had been exposed to others suffering from the virus. Both cases were identified Friday, according to a report from the Florida Department of Health. They are among 18 patients in Summerfield, which is located just outside the walls of The Villages.
Florida’s Friendliest Hometown is holding steady at 77 COVID-19 cases. The overwhelming majority – 69 – are in Sumter County, where most of the homes in The Villages are located. Seven are in Lake County and one has been identified in Marion County portion of the mega-retirement community.
Overall, the tri-county area is reporting 540 Coronavirus cases –an increase of just six patients from Friday to Saturday. There have been 26 deaths and 117 people have been hospitalized.
Sumter County now has 169 cases, an increase of just two in a 24-hour period. Of those, 63 percent are men, 36 percent are women and one percent is unknown. They range in age from 17 to 92, with a median age of 66. Twelve residents have succumbed to the virus and 39 have required hospital care.
At 221 positive results, Lake County leads the tri-county area with 221 cases of the potentially deadly virus. Like Sumter County, it increased by just two cases from Friday to Saturday. Of those, 49 percent are men and 57 percent are women. They range in age from 1 to 86 and their median age is 52. There have been 10 deaths and 58 patients have been hospitalized.
Marion County also increased by just two cases over a 24-hour period to 150. Of those, 44 percent are men and 56 percent are women. Their ages range from 2 to 96, with the median age of 51. Four patients have died and 20 have been treated in area hospitals.
All told, Florida is reporting 30,839 cases – an increase of just 306 from Friday afternoon. Of those, 29,996 are Florida residents. There have been 1,055 deaths – an increase of nine from Friday’s Florida Health Department statistics – and 4,849 people have been treated in hospitals across the Sunshine State.
