Three suspects identified in slaying of sickly 76-year-old Summerfield man

Chase Freeman

Three suspects have been identified in the murder last year of a 76-year-old Summerfield man.

Chase Freeman, 21, of Summerfield, has been arrested by Marion County sheriff’s detectives in the death of Richard Peters who was found July 26 at his home at 14522 Southeast 1st Avenue Rd. Peters had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

An Army veteran, he had been described as “sickly.”
Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s home showed what appeared to be a burglary taking place at Peters’ home. Gunfire and the breaking of glass could be heard on the audio portion of the surveillance.

David Dillberg

The investigation led to the social media of 21-year-old David Dillberg and it indicated Dillberg had been setting up a “job” or “mission” hours before the neighbor’s security footages showed a group of individuals run through the Peters’ backyard, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Forensic evidence led detectives to 23-year-old Christopher Sesler, who was identified in a photo lineup as someone who was at Peters’ home on the night he was killed. Sesler, who was arrested in 2017 for damaging a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, is being held at the Lake County Jail in an unrelated crime.

Christopher Sesler

Dillberg is incarcerated elsewhere but he and Sesler will be transported back to Marion County to face charges of first-degree murder. Freeman has been charged with principal to first degree felony murder.

A fourth suspect is being sought. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Travis O’Cull at 352‐369‐6805 or to contact Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 368‐STOP.
