Woman who stole LED bulb at Buffalo Ridge Wal-Mart sentenced to jail time

Brenda Lee Warren

A woman who contacted Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages to reclaim a $20 bill and was arrested in the theft of a LED bulb is serving time behind bars.

Brenda Lee Warren, 58, of Wildwood, went to the store on Aug. 24 and paid for items she had selected, but then went back into the store, selected a LED light bulb, leaving through the garden section without paying for the $16.87 item, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The following day, Warren contacted the store to report she had left a $20 bill at the self-checkout counter. The Wal-Mart associate asked Warren her name, which she provided. The Wal-Mart associate asked Warren if she had paid for the LED light bulb, to which Warren replied, “No, I forgot.” She added that she had “a lot on her mind,” the arrest report said.

A check revealed she had previously been convicted on a theft charge in 2006 in Sumter County.

Warren appeared Wednesday in Sumter County Court and submitted a plea of no contest in the case. She was sentenced to 29 days in jail.

At the time of her latest brush with the law, Warren had been free on bond following her arrest in June on a charge of possession of methamphetamine. That case is still pending.
