Barefoot man tasered after strange behavior at church in The Villages

Domingo Demetrius Johnson

A barefoot man who was behaving strangely was tasered at a church in The Villages.

A Lady Lake police officer was on a security detail at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Timothy Catholic Church when he saw 28-year-old Domingo Demetrius Johnson, of Fort Myers, running barefoot across the parking lot. Johnson then ran behind a wall where air conditioning units are located at the exterior of the church, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Johnson kneeled down, but kept popping his head up over the wall.

The officer approached Johnson and asked what he was doing. Johnson refused to answer questions and attempted to walk away. Johnson then turned to the police officer and said, “We are going to fight.”

The officer deployed his Taser on Johnson, who continued to resist commands to put his hands behind his back. A fingerprint scan was used to confirm Johnson’s identity.

He was arrested on charges of loitering/prowling and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $1,500 bond.
