Lightning strike sparks blaze at home in Village of Poinciana

A lightning strike Sunday afternoon sparked a blaze at a home in the Village of Poinciana.

The strike occurred at about 3 p.m. at 1835 Kyrle Terrace as a violent band of thunderstorms pushed its way through The Villages.

Firefighters were on the roof of the home in the Village of Poinciana.

The Villages Public Safety Department rapidly descended on the scene and firefighters quickly got to the roof of the home to assess the situation.

The damage was contained to the garage and a portion of the living room.

Firefighters had a busy afternoon with a second response to a report of a blaze in the 1900 block of Ardmore Way in the Village of Bonnybrook. Lightning knocked a hole in the home’s roof but there were no flames reported.

The storm also knocked out power for more than 3,000 SECO Energy customers.
