Wildwood approves large apartment complex that will loom over Village of Tamarind Grove

Wildwood commissioners Monday approved the site plan for a 398-unit apartment complex at Trailwinds Village, less than a week after Village of Tamarind Grove residents raised concerns about the project.

The Wilds of Trailwinds Village, a multi-family complex, will be built behind Lowe’s Home Improvement store, next to Tamarind Grove. It includes four 39,498-square-foot, three-story buildings on about 21 acres that will be constructed in two phases.

The apartment complex will be located between Lowe’s at Trailwinds Village and the backside of the Village of Tamarind Grove.

Each building will be on three sides of a central courtyard with some amenities. Hundreds of parking spaces will surround the buildings and a buffer of trees will separate the project from homes along Ansley Path in The Villages.

Last week, Tamarind Grove residents objected to the project at a meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board. Special Magistrate Grant Watson recommended approval of the project.

Resident Michael Anderson said his main concern was that a trash compactor planned near his property would generate noise. He said other noise could come from hydraulic pipes, loud engines, car stereo speakers and back-up warning signals from trash haulers.

A spokesman for the developer, Framework Group of Tampa, said the project’s garbage collection was designed for maximum efficiency.

No Tamarind Grove residents voiced objections at Monday’s commission meeting.

Commissioners also approved a site plan for an 11,766-square-foot emergency department building for Trailwinds Village on about three acres, located along County Road 466A on the east side of the development near the Sandhill Golf Course.

The building will include a generator, dumpster and a decontamination room, plus paved parking and a driveway.
