Debit card stolen in Wildwood car burglaries turns up at Citizens First Bank branch

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a bank in The Villages on Wednesday after someone attempted to cash a check using a stolen debit card and identification card.

The debit card had been reported stolen Tuesday to the Wildwood Police Department, which was investigating several vehicle burglaries that occurred at a local business the same day. A Wildwood officer told the deputy that in all of the burglaries, personal items such as checks, debit cards and driver’s licenses were stolen.

The officer asked the deputy to collect the items from the Citizens First Bank branch, located at 8590 SE 165th Mulberry Lane, as evidence until someone could come pick them up for the nearby sheriff’s South Marion District Office in The Villages.

The deputy also spoke with the head of security for Citizens First Bank, who said they had been advised of the issue and would make a copy of the bank’s surveillance tape for the Wildwood Police Department, a sheriff’s office report says.
