Game of zombies and kissing lands elementary school student in hot water

A game of zombies and attempted kissing on a school bus Tuesday prompted a Summerfield elementary school resource officer and the Department of Children and Families to get involved.

The resource officer at Harbour View Elementary School, who is a Marion County sheriff’s deputy, was contacted by the school’s dean about the incident that involved three boys – a 7-year-old second-grader, a 9-year-old fourth-grader and an 11-year-old fifth-grader.

One of the boys told the deputy that while pretending to be a zombie he kissed one student on the cheek but wasn’t able to kiss the other one. The boy said neither of the other students “wanted to play zombie” and “wanted him to leave them alone,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy contacted DCF and was told a report concerning the incident would be filed. The deputy also made contact with all but one parent who didn’t answer her phone and left a message for the woman to call the school, the report says.

On Wednesday, the deputy accompanied a DCF worker as she interviewed the student at the school, located at 8445 SE 147th Pl. in Summerfield. The boy told her he “understood what he did was wrong” and was released to go back to class, the report says, adding that the DCF worker already had spoken with the other two students involved in the incident.
