‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ pits Brolin against Mexican drug dealers who resort to human trafficking

When the market price of cocaine drops to historic lows, the Mexican drug cartels look for other means of profiteering. Their new product is even more lucrative. It is herding illegal immigrants across the Rio Grande into Texas.

In “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” the assignment of halting this human flow is given to Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), a veteran FBI agent. When the daughter of one of the cartel leaders is kidnapped by a renegade group, everything gets entwined and complicated.

Graver is a great pick to lead the good guys to overcome the malicious cartels. Technology plays an important part in giving him the edge in his assignment.

Literally, “sicario soldado” means “assassin soldier.” This movie is definitely R-rated for ruthlessness and graphic displays of bodily injuries. Choose this film only if you rank excitement over a logical plot.

“Sicario: Day of the Soldado” is on the marquee of the Rialto Theater in The Villages.
